"I'll Never Get Over It"

Yesterday up and coming big play wideout for the Buffalo Bills Steve Johnson dropped the would be game winning TD catch, he beat double coverage rather easily and just dropped it!! The Steelers went on to win in overtime, but I'm sure many of you have seen the post game conference. Stevie Johnson manned up, he didn't blame anybody but himself for that devastating drop. In fact he is taking it the way great players do, taking ALL acountibility and vows not to forget it. Surely that means this devastating moment will serve as motivation to the young wideout!! Johnson had 5 drops in yesterday's game, prior to yesterday Johnson had been in the middle of a break out season as a former 7th round pick!! Johnson has 59 catches for 796 yards this season and 9 TD's, had he made that catch yesterday it would have been his 10th TD catch leaving him 1 short of the Bills record for TD catches. Johnson is a force to be reckoned with, it was just amazing to see a player actually show that raw emotion in front of the media. Johnson is on his way to becoming an elite reciever, hopefully he remembers this day and moment and never truly gets over it and holds on to each pass as if it's his last. Johnson vowed to never get over it, and I vow to continue to be a Steve Johnson fan. What did you think of the Bills young WR?? Will this haunt him or fuel him to become an elite reciever??

84 and Counting

Keep an eye on the Uconn Women's team, after disposing of LSU this weekend they have won 84 games in a row!!. 4 more wins brings them to a tie with John Wooden's UCLA team, 5 more wins makes them immortal. Maya Moore had a double-double yesterday (26 points & 12 rebounds), that puts Moore in an elite category of Uconn Basketball History. Moore is the 3rd player to have 2 thousand points and 1 thousand rebounds, Moore's 26 points yesterday aslo put her only 22 points behind the school's all time leading scorer in Tina Charles! If everything goes right the Lady Huskies will tie history with a win against Ohio State, to beat the record they will have to beat Pacific University. Do you think they will beat or tie the record?? Will they crack under the pressure, and at what number of games will the streak stop?? Keep in mind they play Stanford December 30th!!

Return of the "Slouch" Revis vs T.O. part 2

So the Jets play the Bengals tommorrow night, as many of you know a Mr. Darelle Revis referred to a certain Mr. Randy Moss and Mr. Terrell Owens as "Slouches." Revis was pegged as the best DB in the NFL after last year's season, now that he's gotten a chance to get healthy much of it due to his bad hammy and lack of conditioning after the hold out Revis has returned to his normal level of play. Just recently Revis has handcuffed both Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson, Revis held T.O. to 6 receptions for 44 yards in 2 games agains the Bills last year. I don't want to leave this out, Revis was flagged for 4 pass interfrence calls against Owens, so maybe Owens does have a point. Well T.O. says this isn't last year and has gone on record calling Revis an "average" corner when asked who were the toughest DB's he's faced during the course of his career. It's a new year indeed as T.O. has returned to his former level of play this year with the Bengals, for the season has 62 catches for 897 yards and 8 TD's. Last year with the Bills Owens could only muster 55 catches for 829 yards and 5 TD's, T.O. is ready for his rematch with Revis. Will T.O.'s return to "Revis Island" be a successful one, or will he fall to the same fate as Andre and Calvin Johnson?? Is Revis the best DB in the league?

What's wrong with the Heat??

The Miami Heat are currently in 2nd place in their division with an 8-6 record, they are exactly 1.5 games back of the division leading Orlando Magic. Many people are already poking fun at the Heat and calling this experiment a failure after 14 games, the Heat also have a point differential of +7.9 which is tops in the Eastern Conference and 3rd best in the NBA. So even with all of their "issues" the Heat are doing pretty good. I think most expected the "Big 3" to have instant chemistry, that is not the case because of the different type of skill sets they bring to the table. In Wade you have a "combo" guard that has the athleticism of an NBA small forward, LeBron has the body of a power forward with the court vision of a PG, and maybe the hardest to intergrate will be Bosh because he is a classic "stretch 4. Wade and James have very similar skill sets from the way they look at the floor, to the way they attack the basket, and that's what makes it hard to utilize Bosh. Bosh can operate out of the post, but he is best at the elbow where he can face up his man and choose how to attack him. LeBron is getting used to his new position which is essentially PG, but that won't be comfortable for him until Mike Miller gets back. Can you compare this "Big 3" to Bostons? Honestly NO, Boston's "Big 3" is more of a conventional one. Ray is the shooter, Paul is the slasher, and KG is always paired with a conventional big which allows him to roam the perimiter for the pick-and-pop. The other difference between the two groups is the age of when they were put together, in Miami's case they are all about to enter their primes and aren't exactly sure as to what roles they have. In Boston's case, it was put together closer to the end of their careers so they knew and accepted their roles going into it. Mark my words, when Miami figures it out they will be the toughest out in the playoffs. It's just a matter of time if you ask me. Are the Heat going to be a contender this year, or is this year already out of the question for them in terms of competing for a championship? Will Miami get it together before the end of the season? What do YOU think the problem with Miami is??

Your Pick: Crosby, Ovechkin, or.....Stamkos??

This is the first time this question might have a different option, usually the fight is over who likes Crosby or Ovie better. I will take pride in playing devil's advocate here because this year's Point Leader in the NHL is neither Crosby or Ovechkin. This year's leading goal scorer isn't either of the two phenoms who everyone either loves or hates. At this point in the season, as has been the case since the start of the season the player who is at the top of the Points and Goals board is Steven Stamkos. Stamkos is a 3rd year player for the Tampa Bay Lightning, at only 20 years old he is quickly becoming one of the NHL's best players. Stamkos leads the NHL in points with 35, he is the league's leading goal scorer with 20. I'm not sure how many people have heard of this young man prior to this year, but is definitely on his way to being a house hold name. In his rookie year Stamkos had 23 goals and 23 assists, in 79 games he tallied 46 points. He improved in all areas by his sophomore campaign as his goal tally grew to 51, he also had 44 assists and finished the season with 95 points. In the 21 games played this year Stamkos has 20 goals and 15 assists, that has translated to 35 points. This is already his total after JUST 21 games, imagine what he's going to finish the year with!! Just for the record I am an Ovechkin fan, yet I believe this kid's play demands for his name to be thrown into the conversation. I don't like him better than Ovie or Crosby yet, but I definitely think he's more than on his way. Is Stamkos as good as his numbers or is he just getting lucky?? Does Stamkos deserve to be mentioned in the company of Crosby or Ovechkin, or is it premature to suggest it??

Weekly NFL Recap..

Weekly College Football Recap...

Sunken Ship...

The Vikings fired Brad Childress yesterday, I think that is something that should have been done 2 years ago. I've never thought of him to be a decent coach ever, I didn't like him in Philly and I think this firing came way to late. Childress cost the Vikes a 3rd round pick, that 3rd round pick might become more and more valuable now that their record is where it is. Childress is one of those people or coaches rather, that don't take criticism or other people's ideas well. Favre has criticized his offensive philosophy many times, Moss was ousted because he had thoughts on the philosophy as well. If Moss doesn't believe in what you're preaching he's not going to behave. Childress believes his way IS the way, and any other suggestion is terribly wrong and off base. If you owned the Vikings and you knew that Favre and Childress hated each other's guts, why bring Favre back if you still had Childress?? I am by no means a Brett Favre fan, supporter, or advocate. You had to have seen this coming, they've taken shots at each other through the media more than a couple times now. This ship was bound to go down, it must stink as the owner knowing that not only have you lost a 3rd round pick but Favre might be done as well!! Thank you Brad Childress, for single handedly "coaching" an extremely talented team into the ground!! Do you feel that the Vikings made the right move?? Did it come way too late?? Who will the Vikings have as head coach next season??

Don't take it personal, it's BUSINESS!!

I hate to be the one to say this, it really does pain me a little. Yet, at the end of the day I understand what will happen when you fight. I have been a Yankee fan all my life, I will continue to be one until I leave this earth, and even then I will love the organization. When dealing with the Yankees there is a rule to live by, here it is so read this carefully: NO ONE IS BIGGER THAN THE ORGANIZATION, NO ONE!! Mr. Jeter you have been the face of the Yankees for many many years now, unfortunately you are at the stage of your career where you are no longer a LOCK to be here. It would be nice for you to finish up your time as a New York Yankee, we (the Yankee faithful) will remember you as you were not as you are for all of the things you did and not all of the things you can no longer do. Please tell your agent to get over himself and realize that this isn't 10 years ago, this isn't George you're dealing with, if you keep pushing you will be left out in the cold. I hate to break this to you, but what other team in baseball would pay for you current talents at your current asking price?? The 20 or 21 million that the Yankees are offering you is at least 5 to 10 million more than what you're worth. Matter of fact let's take a look at history, can you remember the last great Yankee that finished his career out with the Yankees? Let me be more pointed, can you remember the last great Yankee who was asking for more than what he was worth in his twilight years? No offense to you Mr. Jeter, but the same thing was done to many of the greats before you ( Ruth, Mantle, Ford, Berra). Please do the right thing and take the offer, don't finish your career out somewhere else where you will be treated who you are NOW rather than who you WERE!! You've had an illustrious career here in New York Mr. Jeter, don't let pride tarnish your legacy. There is one thing I know, no one is bigger than the Yankees, NO ONE!! Please don't find out the hard way, if the Yanks could go back in time and renege on the length of A-Rod's contract they would, so don't take it personal and just take the money!! Do you think Jeter is worth more than 20 million, what do you think he's worth? Is he better than your current short stop on your favorite team??

And the 2010 NFL MVP Goes to....

Drumroll please........MICHAEL VICK!!! Seriously did you have another candidate, I really would like to know if there are any because I can't think of one that should be mentioned in the same breath as him. Vick's QB Rating is 115.1 for the year, the next closest QB is David Garrard at 104.9!! I'm going to let you do the math, matter of fact I'll help...it's not even CLOSE!! He has yet to throw an interception, he's only been sacked 15 times and think about how often Kolb got sacked when he played behind them. Vick made the Eagles more dangerous than they could have ever been under the watch of Kolb or McNabb, this offense was never THIS explosive before he was handed the controls. The Eagles are averaging 400 yards of offense a game under Vick which is 3rd best in the league, last year the Eagles averaged 357 yds a game and were ranked 11th in offense. Vick also has the Eagles one-tenth (1/10) of a point behind the highest scoring team in the league, New England is averaging 28.7 points a game and the Eagles are averaging 28.6 points a game. Last year the Eagles were 5th in points scored with 26.8 points a game, that means that Vick has defintely boosted their offense. Vick hasn't done all of his damage in the air, even though his numbers accumulated through the air are impressive. Vick has been just as much of a threat on the ground, Vick has 4 rushing TD's and has only fumbled once. What might be more impressive is 5 runs for at least 20 yards or more, another part of his game that has absolutely frustrated defensive coaches has been his ability to run for 1st downs and he has 20 of those to his credit!! Just to give you an idea of what he's done on the ground: Vick has 44 rushing attempts for 341 yards, Brandon Jacobs has 73 rushing attempts for 377 yards. I understand that it's a little early to crown the MVP, but he deserves it for the level he is playing at. No one else in the league has been on the same planet as Vick, he looks as if he's become everything he was projected to be in terms of upside and even more. It has been a while back, but do you all remember how hard it was to stop Vick when all he had was Alge Crumpler and Brian Finneran in Atlanta?? Do you remember the days when going to see Vick play was called the "Michael Vick Experience??" Well it's back and it's twice as good, if not three times as better as the old show!! All people used to say was that he couldn't produce while in the pocket, well be careful what you ask for because those people just got it!! Vick has reclaimed his title of the most exciting player in the NFL in my mind, what do you have to say about him??

Why this Streak is Different!!

So I'm sure all of you are aware that the Uconn Women's Baskeball team are in the midst of an 80 game win streak. They just came off a victory against Baylor where the Huskies held on for dear life. There are a lot of people on the women's side of College Basketball that want the Huskies to fall short of the record they are after. The record for anyone who isn't aware of it, is the record that John Wooden and his UCLA team set of 88 consecutive victories. As of today the Huskies are 9 games away from making history, if they were to do this the Huskies would be owners of the greatest records in all of sports. What makes this so interesting is how this paticular Uconn team isn't as dominant as the ones that started this streak. This might be one of the weakest teams that Geno Auriemma has had in some time in Storrs. That is what makes it so great, most everyone on the outside doesn't realize how young this team is. The beauty of this is that of all the teams Uconn has had, THIS team is the one that is in reach of the record. This young, inexperienced bunch have a lot riding on their shoulders. Outside of Maya Moore and Tiffany Hayes, this team doesn't have the long list of All-Americans lined up and down it's rosters. However they do have THE best player in the country in Moore, but it's going to be tough because the rest of the group is going to HAVE to make plays. Usually Uconn always has at least two great players on one team, this time is different because outside of Maya the rest of the roster is unknown. Do I think they can pull this off?? Yes because I think Geno is the best coach in the country and he has the best player in the country at his disposal. Will it be a cake walk?? Hardly because the coaches don't play, the team is not battle tested as a unit. If they make it look easy I will be very very very suprised!! Do you think the Huskies will break Wooden's record?? If they don't, how many games will they fall short??

You Choose: Truth, Witch Hunt, or Smear Campaign?

So Cam Newton is or was the leading Heisman Trophy Candidate, he is a junior at Auburn University. Over the past three years, there has been little to no news about Newton's potential off field problems. Why at this specific juncture in his collegiate career, when he is in the running for the Heisman does all of this "news" spew out of the past?? We all know that he committed to the University of Florida coming out of high school, we also know that when Tebow decided to come back for his senior year that Newton transfered. Some of that had to do with Newton's purchase of a stolen laptop, he was suspended from the team and than invited back on after the court approved program he completed. It had also been said that Newton got caught cheating several times at Florida, yet none of this made headlines as many of Urban Meyer's players seem to "avoid" the spotlight when they are caught doing wrong. Newton then transfered to Blinn college(a Juco) and won the NJCAA(National Junior College Athletic Assosication) Championship, here is where the "trouble" started. Newton was the only 5 star recruit coming out of Junior College that year, he was being heavily recruited by both Auburn and Mississpi State. Newton chose Auburn, and now after at least a year Missisppi State is saying that there were issues within the recruiting process!! They are saying that either the Newtons(Cam and his father Cecil) or someone representing them were asking for a "pay to play" type deal. Allegedly this is why Newton chose Auburn because Miss State didn't "offer" enough money. My biggest issue with this, is in light of the "Reggie Bush" situation why has no one from Miss State come forward "On Record" to say that this is indeed what happened. Why is no on from Florida getting in trouble for releasing a students private information, I would venture to say that the cheating scandal is probably on a students "personal file." So how is that information allowed to be shared? Why all of a sudden is Miss State releasing all of this "information", is it because they were okay with the "pay to play" deal and they didn't get chosen? Or is Newton's success like salt in an open wound seeing that they could of really used a player with that kind of talent? Help me out here, why did all of these allegations come forward in the past 2 weeks if all of these things allegedly happened at least 2 years ago??

Was it Worth it in Hindsight??

So the Redskins are 4-4 and the Raiders are 5-4 in the extremely tough AFC. The Raiders don't have the line that the Skins have, or the talent on offense according to most. What I find extremely interesting about this is that Jason Campbell has a better passer rating than Washington's "Savior" Donavan McNabb. Both of the QB's have similar numbers, both have 7 passing TDs. Mcnabb has thrown 8 INTs to Campbell's 5. McNabb has thrown for 1971 yds to Campbell's 1252 yds, my point is what was the point of getting rid of Jason?? To make matters worse, McNabb's career QB rating is only 3 POINTS better than Campbell's career QB rating. McNabb is much older than Campbell, so what was the point?? Campbell is getting it done with Darius Heyward-Bey and Jacoby Ford as of late. The Raider's recieving corps is depleted due to injuries, both teams like to run the ball and play defense. The only difference is that Oakland allows Jason Campbell to PLAY, he's allowed to go DOWNFIELD. In Washington they rarely let him get vertical in the passing game and dispelled the notion that he could throw a catchable deeep ball. In realaity it's the exact opposite, Campbell throws one of the better deep balls in the game with a lot of touch and great accuaracy. It goes back to them just letting him do what he's comfortable doing. You villified this young kid, only to replace him with an older QB with less arm strength and less accuarcy. It has been rumored for years that McNabb often underthrows & overthrows his recievers. I'm just asking in hindsight, was it worth it?? The supposedly better QB (McNabb) has been benched for REX GROSSMAN!! Let me know, was it worth it because the Redskins are already looking for a QB for next season. Jason Campbell or Donavan McNabb??

NHL Snapshot...

Yes I'm aware of the hockey season that has started and I would like those of you that are hockey fans to know that I'm working on having a weekly hockey segment. As soon as that happens I will make sure you all know, now I will share with you my thoughts on this young season.

The Caps have the best record in the Eastern Conference and the 3rd best record in the league. Capitals fans should be proud as their team is 10-4, the closest team to them in the Eastern Conference is the Flyers at 9-4 of which the Caps beat last night in overtime on Mike Green's goal! What's quite interesting to me is the current state of the Pittsburgh Penguins who are only 7-7 on the season. The Los Angeles Kings are doing great over in the Western Conference with a record of 10-3, I can't decide who's better as St. Louis is 9-1 but they have only played 12 games. Well actually I can decide who's better the Kings and the Capitals don't have any draws whereas the Blues have 2. We don't condone draws/ties here at My M.O.S, so at this current point the leaders are the Caps and the Kings!!

Leaders, leaders, LEADERS!!! As I said before it's only a snapshot of this point in the season, no indictments are to made. The current points leaders are: Steven Stamkos(22), Sid the Kid(19), Ovie(18), Brad Richards(18), and Patrick Sharp(17) I would love to go on, but if I share everything with you here than you won't check into the NHL segment every week. So that concludes this NHL Snapshot, Who do you have overtaking the points leader, Crosby or Ovechkin??

An Elite QB after all??

So many things were said about Andy Reid getting rid of Donavan McNabb, especially letting him go to a rival in the NFC East. Kevin Kolb was supposed to be the leader, a Drew Brees knockoff(not a bad thing) with great control of the pocket and the West Coast System. The Eagles were going to continue to use Vick in "packages", well obviously the Eagles weren't being forthright about what was really going on in their complex these last 2 years. Let me share with you what I think happened, Reid got the perfect QB for his offense when he got Vick. Vick was working behind the scenes from Day 1 on mastering that offense, the result being this year when Kolb went down and Vick came in and almost led the Eagles back. What I'm saying is that there is no way possible that your "wildcat" QB can come in and have a certain level of mastery over the entire playbook unless of course you were grooming him to start to begin with. Vick has been outstanding this season, he's yet to throw an interception and his pocket presence and poise is spectacular. He just outplayed big brother Manning, why isn't that the big story today??? Is it because all of those naysayers will have to come back and apologize?? I have been defending him as an elite QB his whole career, just because you may not like his "style" of quarterbacking doesn't make him bad. That's just a preference, there's no law that says all elite QB's must stay in the pocket and take big hits. He has an arm equal to or greater(greater in my opinion) than many of the "elite" QB's in the game, it's not his fault he doesn't have a big wind up and is able to flick the ball 70 yards with great velocity. It's not his fault he was blessed with elite wide out speed either, or the agility of an elite running back. He is what he is and he should be applauded and celebrated as an "elite" QB in this league. Let me share with you his 2010 numbers so far this season: QB Rating 105.3 Passing Yards 1017 Passing TDs 7 Int 0 Rushing Yards 261 Rushing TDs 2 What's wrong with those numbers, does that sound like an "average" QB?? The man deserves an apology, he has regained his form as well as exceeded his former level of play. This is Michael Vick, this is what he could be if he could reach his potential. Well he's only 30, he's missed 2 years and he has at least another 4 years left. The scariest part of this, I still don't believe he's reached his prime!! What do you think of the job Vick has done this year?? Is this year an aberration or will he continue to get better??

Trouble in D.C???

I know I usually wait until Tuesday to do my NFL recaps, and I still will have one coming tomorrow but this can't wait. What in the world is going on in Washington?? They were down just 1 score to the Lions, and they took McNabb out for Rex Grossman?? Let me repeat this....REX GROSSMAN???????? Their have been alot of questionable coaching calls this season for every team, but this might have been the worse!! McNabb might not resign after this, and that leaves the Skins with no QB!! Say McNabb leaves and the Skins aren't able to get a decent QB in the draft?? What does this do to your team, what kind of message was sent through the rest of that locker room yesterday when that decision was made?? It's not like Donavan is a young player, he is a veteran and that's how Shannahan treated him?? Will this hamper the Redskins bid in Free Agency in the future, no matter how you spin this it's definitely a NEGATIVE!! What do you think of Coach Shannahan's decision yesterday??

Has the Fat Lady started warming up??

The Giants are now up in the World Series 3 games to 1, last night young, and I mean young Madison Bumgardener showed the Rangers that the Giants might have 2 aces on their staff. Bumgardener threw 8 shut out innings to give the Giants a 4-0 win on Halloween, the 21 year old is the Giants 4th pitcher in their rotation....the 4th!!! I learned about Bumgardener maybe a year or so ago, reading mostly that he had the tools to be special later on. Emphasis on LATER, well he's here now and he's a problem!! What makes matters worse for the Rangers, guess who they will see tonight from the Giants staff?? Tim Lincecum.....this is a must win for the Rangers and the Giants have the luxury of trotting out their ace. Will the Rangers extend this series past tonight, or will the Giants close the door and make history??
